Somatic Experiencing Trauma Therapy in Bridport & Dorset
If talking hasn’t helped you move forward, it is because what you’re carrying isn’t just in your mind, it is in your body.
This isn’t talk therapy. This is real trauma therapy in Bridport & Dorset. Somatic Experiencing stays in the present. It works with your nervous system to help you break free from stress, trauma, and survival patterns.
Trauma Therapy for PTSD, Anxiety & Depression
PTSD, stress, tension, and anxiety are echoes of past survival—your nervous system reacting to a world it still doesn’t feel safe in.
Most people try to think their way out of trauma by talking about it.
“I feel scared.” “I feel anxious.” “I feel sad.”
These aren’t just thoughts, they’re sensations you feel in the body.
Your body holds the real story, why would we ignore it?
My name is Lewis Logan, I am an advanced Somatic Experiencing (SE) practitioner based in Bridport, Dorset. I offer trauma therapy that works with the body, either online or in person at a dedicated therapy space or out walking in nature.
This form of trauma therapy works by helping your nervous system release those old survival responses so you can finally feel free, safe, present, and reconnected to life.

Somatic Therapy in Practice
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a form of trauma therapy designed to help people heal from trauma, stress, and long-term overwhelm. Unlike traditional talk therapy, which focuses on thoughts and stories, SE works with the nervous system, the body, and the mind, helping your whole system process what it couldn’t during past events.
When we go through something overwhelming, our survival responses like fight, flight, or freeze, can get stuck. That unfinished energy often shows up as anxiety, shutdown, anger, or a constant sense of being on edge. Somatic Experiencing’s body-based approach helps the nervous system complete these responses, release tension, and return to a regulated state.
Rather than revisiting traumatic memories, SE focuses on what’s happening in the body right now. Through tools like tracking, titration, resourcing, and co-regulation, the work unfolds gently and at your pace. It’s a non-exposure approach to trauma therapy. You don’t have to retell your story to heal.
Stop trying to think your way out of problems. Start listening to what your body is telling you.
If talk therapy hasn’t helped, Somatic Experiencing may offer the missing piece: a way to stop living in survival mode and start living with purpose.
This is how you find lasting freedom.
This is how you end the cycle.
This is how you become the link that breaks the chain.

Who Is This For?
Somatic Experiencing Sessions in Bridport & Online
The Work Starts Here: What to Expect in a Session
You might not even know what calm feels like anymore. That’s okay. Every session is different, because you’re different each time you walk in. I don’t follow a script. I follow you. We start by checking in: anxious, shut down, overwhelmed? I read the cues, and together we decide what’s needed. That might be breath, grounding, movement, or just sitting quietly. If you’re living with trauma, PTSD, emotional overwhelm or dissociation, we don’t go digging through the past. We work with what’s here, now. A shift in breath. A clenched jaw. An urge to move. Your body’s been doing its best to protect you. Now it needs help to let go. Slowly, safely, we help your system come out of survival and into something steadier. This is what trauma recovery looks like: building the capacity to feel more, handle more, and not lose yourself in the process. You just have to be willing to feel what’s true. I will help you from there.

The Pillars of My Work

Safety
When you feel safe internally, you can explore your emotions, thoughts, and experiences without fear or judgement. It allows you to reconnect with your bodily sensations promoting emotional regulation and facilitating transformative change.

Capacity
Capacity empowers you to handle stress, regulate emotions, adapt to change, and build resilience. You will experience greater self-awareness, improved relationships, and a stronger ability to cope with life’s challenges, leading to a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Purpose
Purpose provides direction and meaning. It increases engagement in life, fosters personal growth, and promotes deeper connections. With a clear sense of purpose, you’ll strengthen your capacity and build a foundation for lasting well-being and fulfilment.

Trauma Therapy That Adapts
My Approach: What Makes This Different?
This work is grounded in three core pillars: Safety, Capacity, and Purpose. These are not just therapeutic ideas. They are lived experiences, and they form the backbone of how I show up with my clients.
I bring warmth, curiosity, and presence into each session. I’m not here to analyse you or spend the whole time digging through your memories. My role is to witness you fully and offer what’s needed in the moment. That might be support, validation, or sometimes, a challenge. I hold good boundaries, communicate clearly, and create space where you can slow down, feel more, and stay with what’s actually happening in your body, especially when it gets uncomfortable.
I believe real healing takes time. In my experience, time is just as much a factor as willingness and self-awareness. Sometimes, a shift happens in one session. Other times, we start to peel back the layers and realise there’s more underneath. That’s okay.
Because I’ve lived this story, I specialise in working with fatherless men. I grew up without someone to show me how to be a man, or how to hold my own anger. That absence shaped everything: how I saw myself, how I moved through the world, and what I believed was possible for me. If that hits close to home, you’re not alone.
I also work with people who were raised by emotionally absent or inconsistent caregivers. The details might differ, but the nervous system adapts in similar ways. Always scanning, always bracing, never quite safe. When no one consistently shows up for you, it leaves a mark. Maybe you’ve felt stuck, shut down, disconnected, or like you’re carrying something heavy but can’t quite name it. This work helps you come back into your body and into your life.
Reclaiming purpose was a turning point for me, and it often is for the people I work with. But we don’t start there. We start by building safety. Then capacity. And from there, purpose can return. Whether you’re dealing with trauma, stress, burnout, or just a quiet sense that something’s off, this work offers a way back to yourself. We start where you are, not where you think you should be, and build from there.

FAQs About Trauma Therapy in Dorset and Online
Somatic Experiencing FAQS
How much does a session cost?
Sessions are £70, but I offer a sliding scale based on your situation. Finances should never be a barrier to healing. I believe this work should be accessible to everyone, so please reach out and we can talk about options.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends. Some people experience meaningful shifts in a few sessions. Others find it’s a slower process that unfolds over time. There’s no fixed timeline here—just a commitment to going at a pace that feels right for you.
I like to block out our sessions in phases, with space for regular reviews. This gives us a chance to reflect on your progress, check if we’re still on the right path, and make adjustments if needed.
Do I need to have trauma to benefit from this work?
No. You don’t need to have experienced something extreme to feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected. This work supports a variety of cases, including anyone who wants to feel safer in their body, respond to life with more ease, or reconnect with their sense of self and purpose.
I’ve tried talk therapy but it didn’t work. Can this help?
Yes. Talk therapy can be helpful—but it doesn’t always reach what’s happening in the body. If you’ve done the talking, understood the patterns, but still feel stuck, this work can meet you on a deeper level. Somatic Experiencing works with the nervous system, not just your thoughts. That’s often where lasting change happens.
What if I don’t like talking about my feelings?
That’s completely okay. Somatic Experiencing isn’t about explaining everything—it’s about noticing what’s happening in your body and working with that. Sometimes words help, sometimes they don’t. We go at your pace, in a way that feels manageable and grounded.
What if my problems are only in my head?
The mind and body aren’t separate. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or flat—even if you can’t explain why—this work can help. Often what feels “in your head” is your nervous system trying to process something through thoughts because it hasn’t been resolved physically.
Will I have to talk about the past?
Only if it feels helpful. We work with the nervous system and the present-moment experience in your body, which means you don’t need to relive or explain painful memories in detail for change to happen.
Can this help with physical symptoms like IBS, chronic pain, or tension?
Yes. These symptoms often have a somatic component—meaning the body is holding unresolved stress or survival energy. This work helps your system complete what’s unfinished, which can bring relief and regulation over time.
Is Somatic Experiencing backed by science?
Yes. SE is grounded in neuroscience, biology, and the physiology of stress. It’s based on how the nervous system naturally processes threat and safety. Research in fields like polyvagal theory and trauma studies supports its approach to working with the body rather than against it.
Is this a real therapy like CBT or psychotherapy?
Somatic Experiencing is a legitimate and internationally recognised modality, but it’s different from traditional talk therapies. It’s body-based and experiential, focused on your felt sense rather than cognitive analysis. If CBT or psychotherapy didn’t go deep enough, SE may be the piece you’ve been missing.
